Guilty as charged

As always we make promises to keep in touch. Whether it be to ring each other up after a days adventure, or to visit every week. To take drives with no destination, meeting up for chat that is pointless but at the same time truly hilarious and entertaining. We say nothing will change but once the words come out, we can feel the truth starting to set in. Things will change, things will be different.

Change is something that always terrifies me. Your friends move across the country or even just a few hours away. Somehow other things weasel their way in and before you know it you've gone a month without speaking. But I know that I'm to blame. I feel like a terrible friend. I've missed baby showers, caught the last half of weddings, forgotten presents, missed terrible moments when a friend should be the first to comfort, I am lousy.

I plan on never making these mistakes again. Living without the people you love surrounding you isn't living all.

I dreamt...

Today I dreamt.
I dreamt of lemonade on patchwork quilts.
Running my fingers along rubbery blades of grass.
Making crowns out of dandelions.
Cloud watching.
Late night cookouts and long conversations.
Spending 20 hours outside and the remaining 4, sleeping.
Climbing to the top of a lookout and screaming as to welcome in spring.


But that is just a dream because these flooding rains are holding my spring captive.

One look, one thought, one moment. And you just know.
This is something more than you'd planned for.

A little less noise and a little more thought

• If you change your major 9 times and never set out to finish any of them.. it's fine


• If it takes you an hour to pick out toothpaste.. that's okay too


• If you always feel like the odd man out, you probably are.. but did you really want to be the man in?


• If you dream more while awake than asleep.. you've achieved something.


• If you say what you feel at the wrong time.. at least you said it


• If you had the voice people heard, and could change the way they felt. the way they lived. would you step up to the plate and speak?

Going through the motions isn't living. Saying yes because you think there is no other option isn't living either. I had a friend once who every morning, would ask who I wanted to be, how I was going to live, what I was going to do. It didn't have to be some grandoise plan, just dreams really. Knowing that nothing was permanent, you could become anyone you wanted to be.

I hope we never stop dreaming. because the minute we do, we stop living.

Dear Winston,

You're almost 5 months now. It seems like I got you just a few weeks ago, but the vet's scale would beg to differ. You weigh 5x what you were when I first picked you up! Did you swallow a whole puppy and not tell me about it? Your mother must be half zebra because your stripes are starting to come through. In 5 months this is what I've loved the most: I love that you have the soul of an old man. I love how cuddly you are in the mornings. I love that you're afraid of your shadow/ reflection in the mirror/ own bark. I love that little march you do when you're excited. I also love that classic eye roll you do, the one that appears when I do something stupid and you want to put me in my place.
